Common Things to Search For

  • Violent crime rate by state (last 10 years)
  • Property crime trends by city/county
  • Homicide trends over time
  • Hate crime incidents by state
  • Agency reporting coverage (who reports, who doesn't)

Good to Know

  • Not every agency reports every year (gaps happen)
  • Some data is delayed (you may not see the newest year yet)
  • "Rates" vs "counts" can change the story — check which you're viewing
  • Definitions and reporting standards can vary (especially across older years)
